Employee Recruitment and Retention Strategies (presented by WIT)

About the Meetup

This meetup took place on October 5, 2020.

William Horman quoted the Latin phrase Mater artium necessitas - "The mother of invention is necessity" in 1519. The reverse can also be true, necessity can be the Mother of Invention. Now, more than ever, Human Resource Departments across the country are faced with the challenges of retiring baby boomers, staff shortages in STEM fields, cultural differences, and new challenges triggered by the pandemic, such as work from home. Gone are the days where employees would stay 30 – 40 years in their careers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics – “The median number of years that wage and salary workers had been with their current employer was 4.2 years in January 2018, unchanged from the median in January 2016, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported September 20, 2018. Many agencies and companies are providing career opportunities and innovative programs to attract and retain employees. In this Meetup, we heard from a Human Resources subject matter expert along with representatives from both the public and private sectors to learn what they’re doing to successfully address these challenges head on.
