IBTTA and The TRB Committee on Managed Lanes (ACP 35) held this webinar to help the audience learn about a number of pilot projects/studies and hear the early results, findings and lessons learned. Presenters covered topics such as best practices in deploying these technologies, performance and reporting requirements, procurement strategies, and organizational and policy changes needed to implement automated detection and enforcement systems. This webinar was held to inform today’s practitioners who are currently operating managed lanes or planning for the design and operations of future priced managed lanes.

Jamie Mackey, P.E, PTOE, Utah DOT Freeway Operations Manager
Jamie Mackey, P.E., PTOE is the Freeway Operations Manager for the Utah Department of Transportation, overseeing the operation of ramp meters, Express Lanes, and over 1,000 data collection sites.  In her previous role as a signal operations engineer, she played an integral role in the development of UDOT's Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures website. Jamie attended both Iowa State University and The University of Texas in Austin and has over 15 years of traffic operations experience.    

Dan Lamers, Senior Program Manager, North Central Texas Council of Governments
Dan Lamers is a Senior Program Manager for Transportation Planning with the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Dallas-Fort Worth area.  Dan has been with NCTCOG since 1985 after he received his Bachelors Degree Virginia Tech, majoring in Civil Engineering with emphasis in transportation.  He subsequently received his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington.  Dan is currently NCTCOG’s Senior Program Manager for transportation planning.  His responsibilities include the development of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, multimodal planning studies, and the incorporation of local government planning efforts into metropolitan transportation planning process. He is a registered engineer in the state of Texas and is the chairman of the Civil Engineering Advisory Council at the University of Texas at Arlington and co-chair of the Transportation Research Board Managed Lanes Committee.

Barkev Tatevosian, Principal Transportation Planner, ExpressLanes, LA Metro
Barkev Tatevosian has studied Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Systems Engineering at University of California in Irvine. He currently works in the Congestion Reduction Department assisting in the management of the Metro ExpressLanes. He has worked at Los Angeles Metro for over 6 years, growing his transportation knowledge.

Eric Coraggio, Project Manager, Transurban
Eric joined Transurban in 2015 to expand and advance the toll operator’s technology and innovation portfolio. Over the past five years he has been an integral leader driving forward next-generation transportation programs including remotely operated vehicles, solar-powered smart road studs, vehicle occupancy detection solutions and other mobility advancements. Eric led Transurban’s flagship Smart Highways Challenge which recruited more than 75 start-ups from around the world to propose innovative opportunities to improve upon the company’s 53-mile Express Lanes network, among the first dynamically tolled systems in the U.S. Today, Eric serves as the Program Manager for Transurban’s Fair Travel Program that seeks to increase HOV travel compliance on toll roads utilizing communications and technology advancements.
