President Obama has nominated Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx to be the next Secretary of Transportation with responsibility for overseeing all transportation modes (surface transportation, rail, air, maritime, etc.).
The Mayor has a strong history of addressing transportation issues in the growing metropolitan area of Charlotte, North Carolina, having worked on an electric tram service and the expansion of light rail to ease congestion.
If confirmed by the Senate, will Mr. Foxx explore more innovative funding options to build and maintain the nation’s roads, bridges, and tunnels in the current fiscally constrained environment? And, what influence will he play in the 2014 surface transportation program authorization?
