IBTTA STATEMENT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Samuel Johnson, President and Pat Jones, Executive Director and CEO of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA), the worldwide association representing toll facility owners and operators and the businesses that serve them, released the following joint statement on the Florida Department of Transportation and Georgia’s State Road and Tollway Authority joining the E-ZPass Interagency Group network.

“IBTTA applauds the announcement that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Georgia’s State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) will join the E-ZPass Network. This is a huge step towards making travel along the U.S. East Coast seamless for drivers. Customers taking toll roads, crossing bridges and tunnels simply want the ease of using their toll account whether it be SunPass, Peach Pass or E-ZPass.

“For more than 10 years, IBTTA and the industry have spent millions of dollars and thousands of volunteer hours working to foster nationwide toll interoperability. While it seems a simple concept, the original Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems were designed mainly to serve local customers.  It can be complicated to knit together these local and regional systems because many technical and business decisions have to be harmonized.

“Completing the chain of interoperability among all East Coast toll operators is a big win. The Western and Central regions of the country are also nearing completion of their efforts to achieve interoperability. All of these efforts are important steps towards achieving national toll interoperability within the foreseeable future.”
