International Transportation Foundation Awards $25,000 to Five Students Earning Transportation-Related Degrees

Awarded Scholarships from the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association Foundation

Washington, D.C. – The International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) Foundation, the educational and charitable arm of the worldwide association for the owners and operators of toll facilities and the businesses that serve them, announced today the selection of five undergraduate student’s receiving scholarships designed to support and encourage future transportation leaders. Selected from accredited educational institutions across the globe, each student will receive a $5,000 scholarship to defray their costs of pursuing an undergraduate degree in a transportation-related field of study, including engineering; urban and regional planning; construction management; public administration; and other related fields.

“This year’s recipients are completing their studies in very challenging times. Our industry is adapting rapidly to change all around us,” said Frank McCartney, Chair, IBTTA Foundation and Principal, FGM Consulting. “We congratulate this year’s five scholarship winners who represent the best and brightest, who will be transportation change-agents as innovation and new technologies revolutionize how people work and travel about the country and the world.”

The 2020 IBTTA Foundation Scholarship Recipients are:

• Blake Brower, from Beavercreek, OH, studying construction management at the University of Cincinnati;

• Celeste Carmignani, from Golden, CO, studying civil engineering at the Colorado School of Mines;

• Matthew Emery, from Vancouver, WA, studying public policy at the University of Washington;

• Ryan Hess, from Canonsburg, PA, studying civil engineering at the Ohio State University; and

• Paul Hutchinson, from Waialua, HI, studying civil engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
   

“We are thrilled to award scholarships to these five outstanding students to help support their transportation-related degrees,” said Samuel Johnson, Interim CEO, Transportation Corridor Agencies and IBTTA President. “The IBTTA Foundation is proud to support our future leaders and their contributions to enhancing mobility. The 2020 scholarship recipients will be recognized for their achievement during the Opening Ceremonies of IBTTA’s Virtual Annual Meeting & Exhibition on September 14, 2020.
