- 2017 Bastion Veterans Community
IBTTA Foundation Annual Service Project
Bastion, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is an intentionally designed neighborhood in New Orleans for returning warriors and families with lifelong rehabilitative needs. Through their powerful community model that empowers neighbors as volunteers in a warrior’s care plan. Their strategy is "Community as the Intervention." At Bastion, warriors and families live in a planned community alongside other purpose-driven adults. The community is designed to foster informal neighboring and enduring relationships. Bastion sustains a thriving recovery from the wounds and casualties of war, a critical step closer to their goal of creating a holistic center with medical, mental health, legal, vocational and therapeutic assistance and programs.
In 2017, in partnership with Rebuilding Together New Orleans and with the support of our many sponsors, more than 60 IBTTA volunteers converged on the Bastion Community for a day of service. In a day of meaningful and exciting projects, we planted, built, installed, dug, and constructed throughout the community, bringing them one step closer to a completed community. This property will serve as the replicable model for national expansion. Learn More.
