State and National Leaders Provide An Update on COVID-19’s
Impact on U.S. Surface Transportation Systems
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Memorial Day, the official start of summer, is traditionally one of the busiest travel times of the year. But because of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, many vital and iconic American transportation facilities are suffering severe traffic and revenue declines of 50% to 90%.
On the eve of the Memorial Day weekend, the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association will host a virtual press briefing on the “State of U.S. Transportation During COVID-19 Pandemic” featuring local, state and national transportation leaders.
The briefing will take place on Thursday, May 21st at 12noon (ET) and will focus on current traffic numbers, what the loss of revenue means for the country’s transportation infrastructure and systems, and new policies and procedures to keep the traveling public safe as the country begins reopening in phases.
