IBTTA honorary member Ed Regan, senior vice president at CDM Smith, was in the spotlight earlier this summer when his company earned a coveted 2019 Marketing and Communication award from the Boston chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS).

The award for Regan’s eight-minute video, How Will Driverless Vehicles Change the Way We Travel?, was one of three first-place finishes for the CDM Smith team, and one of five awards the company took home this year.

In the video, which he presented at IBTTA’s Annual Technology Summit in Orlando, Florida in March, Regan notes that “technology change is coming to transportation, whether we want it or not.” He lays out a vision of future mobility in which “fewer people are choosing to own or drive their own cars. More people are choosing to live downtown. And new forms of mobility are becoming more common. Sweeping social and cultural changes are occurring, especially in cities, which will need new approaches to planning for and meeting transportation needs.”

While he sees “many disruptive changes on the horizon,” Regan presents and explains five that will have the biggest influence on transportation: the rapid growth of shared mobility, the coming shift to electric vehicles, with much lower operating costs and much longer operating life, the “inevitable march toward autonomous vehicles”, an upending of the economics of travel, with fewer cars but probably more miles of travel, and Big Data analytics.

“The past two consecutive years, CDM Smith has earned four awards at the SMPS Boston Chapter Awards ceremony,” the company notes. “This year, CDM Smith surpassed that number with a remarkable five awards,” while taking top honors in the brand awareness campaign category for a fifth consecutive year.

“I am thrilled by this recognition for the work our team is doing.” said Julia Forgas, the company’s Executive Vice President - Marketing & Communications. “We have the very best communications and marketing professionals in the business, and they continue to find ways to be innovative and creative.”
