IBTTA Looks Forward to Working with the New Administrationto Implement $1T Investment in America's Infrastructure

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) released the following statement on today’s confirmation hearing in the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee on the nomination of The Honorable Elaine L. Chao, President-elect Trump’s designee for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

During today’s hearing, designee Chao stated in her opening remarks that a challenge for our nation’s infrastructure is to, “unleash the potential for private investment in our nation’s infrastructure. As we work together to develop the details of President Trump’s infrastructure plan, it is important to note the significant difference between traditional program funding and other innovative financing tools, such as public-private partnerships.”

Statement from IBTTA Executive Director and CEO Patrick D. Jones:

“IBTTA and the tolling industry are excited to work to advance the new administration’s vision to invest in restoring America’s crumbling roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure over the next decade.

We look forward to ensuring that toll finance remains an important component of any proposal to rebuild our nation's transportation infrastructure. We will do our part to meet our country's surface transportation infrastructure needs.”

According to an IBTTA Report, National Toll Facilities Usage Analysis, the use of toll roads, bridges and tunnels increased 7 percent between 2014 and 2015, a record-breaking rate of growth that puts toll facility use on pace to double in less than 10 years. Today, there are 50 million active electronic toll transponders throughout the country.
